Food News
Like most food lovers I gather my information in many diffrent ways. This section of the site provides up to date links to my favourite food news sources – online newspapers, blogs, websites and radio shows that cover all the news relevant to Melbourne based food lovers. The majority of the information will be about local happenings- with snippets of what’s happening further afield in the online world.
Melbourne Gastronome - One of the top local food blogs with great writing, photos and food choices beyond the CBD. The Gastronomic Visitors Guide offers excellent dining options too.
The Age newspaper - Food and Wine stories from Epicure published every Tuesday, plus restaurant reviews and reviews.
Broadsheet Melbourne- A great wrap of the latest and greatest foodie places around town (plus fashion, art, nightlife and events).
The Weekly Review – This site presents itself in a magazine format, in this case an online one. A section called Epicurean is divided into three parts; coffee, wine and restaurant reviews.
Tomato – Ed Charles’s site is one of the most visited with news from the local food and drink scene.
The Australian newspaper- John Lethlean and Necia Wilden cover national food and wine news and reviews.
The Sunday Herald Sun – Wendy Hargreaves heads up a Sunday section dedicated to food and cooking.
Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine – A stalwart of the local food, wine and travel scene.
Eat It radio show on 3RRR
Besides print and online media Melbourne also has a long running radio show dedicated to food and wine. Called Eat It, it’s hosted by Cam Smith and is broadcast at midday each Sunday on 3RRR (102.7FM). One worth listening into as he has great local chefs, winemakers, cheesemakers and a whole lot more in each week. Plus a guide to the best seasonal produce fresh from the Queen Victoria Market. Catch up with previous Eat It shows online here. Eat It also sends out tweets about upcoming show guests on Twitter.
Another way to gather information is to visit Weekend Notes, an easy-to-use site with fun and interesting things to do, including plenty of food experiences brought to you by Julia Hebaiter and others.
